on the road again

hey all, well the trip is well underway. we've been on the road for a week now. we spent last weekend in vernon for the "hartfield", scott's parents' golf weekend where like 20 of their closest friends come into town to golf and stay at their house. it was crazy, but a fun time. we also visited both of scott's grandparents over the weekend. i'd met the penticton grandparents before, but met the langley grandparents for the first time last friday. scott's grandma showed me pictures of family weddings, and told me how one of the couples wanted to stay virgins until they were married, and then got married because they didn't want to live a life of sin...then she looked at me. yeah, that was a little scary. but all in all, i think it went pretty well.

then we drove to banff on monday, it was a nice drive and didn't take as long as we thought it might. we stayed in a campground just north of the town, and it had flush toilets and hot water! my kind of campground. we went to the campground's theater production that night. um...if you ever get the chance, DON'T GO to the show. the next day, we biked around the town a bit in the morning, and then later on we went and had a soak in the banff upper hot springs pool. mmmmm... we were thinking of going to see the canada day fireworks, but instead stayed at the campsite for the evening. it was super cold over night both nights we stayed there, and on canada day, we went to bed sometime after midnight only to be awoken at 3:30 by the loudest 7 or 8 hicks we've encountered so far. also, these people were really dumb--the campground was hardcore about preventing bears from coming in, and they left tons of bear luring shit out all night.

anyway, we woke up to a downpour, and packed up quickly and headed out for calgary. we tried to go stay at the hostel, but it was full cause stampede was starting in a couple days, so we drove down to the south of town, closer to where jules lives. we ended up splurging on a room at the econo lodge. then we tracked down jules, and went for supper at the cheesec ake cafe, where jules and scott both looked like they were in pain trying to finish their desserts (and neither one managed to finish), and then we had a hot tub at the hotel. then we had to take jules home cause she had to get up at 5am the next morning for work. don't fear though, if you're feeling some jules deprivation, she'll be back with us in the fall again!

the next morning (thursday/yesterday) we left for our longest drive yet, calgary to saskatoon. we stopped in drumheller to make lunch, and then kept on going. we made good time, and were here by about 6:30pm even though we left after 11am. we chilled here for the evening, and now it's the morning...make that noon, and it's raining. so we're going to go out to the bike store, the used cd store, and a couple other places. tonight i'm gonna take scott to fudruckers for the best burgers in saskatoon. (or at least they were last time i had one...8 or 9 years ago) we were going to play mini golf there too, but i think we might get rained out. i think we'll leave monday for grand beach, MB, near winnipeg.

that about sums it up! stay tuned...
