this is *only* a test

no more fucking around. some kind of higher power has decided to test me, and the time is now.

just when i thought things were on track--met with my supervisor yesterday, and was surprised to find that i was well on my way to the chance of meeting all the deadlines to make fall convocation. it was so encouraging.

then today i went to talk to my other commitee member to see what his schedule is like in about a month when i'll need him to read my completed thesis and give it the a-ok. well it turns out he's going away for a month starting a week before my deadline.

to clarify... i thought i had 4 weeks to finish writing my thesis. now i have less than two. if i don't do it, i will have to wait till late summer or possibly even early fall to defend and won't convocate till next June instead of this September.

what can i do but try and finish? all i can say is you might not hear or see much of me in the next little while.

it's on.

politics today

In honour of today's provincial election....a couple of political tidbits!

Did you hear that Belinda left the Conservatives for the Liberal party today??? Total craziness! Now maybe the government won't fall apart on Thursday when they try and pass the budget.

I've spent my morning reading for the BC election...candidate profiles, party platforms, standard stuff. I came across this hilarious little gem on the BC NDP website. The Liberal Truth Translator!

I know this is usually Carla's domain, but I thought in light of the events of the day, we could make an exception. Off to vote in a couple hours!

we're crazy kids...

You'll never believe what Scott and I did on Sunday! But first...have you ever seen mosquitos fucking? No? Well, they're doing it on our window, so here ya go!

mossiesex.JPG

Ok, now about Sunday... So, we got it in our heads that we want to try to learn to skateboard this summer, so Sunday we head out to PoCo to the Running Room to get Scott some new running shoes, and then decide that we'll swing by this skate shop near there, Stiffy's Board Shop. It was quiet because there was a new skate part opening a few blocks away, so everyone was out there, so we started asking the guy working there about the boards and stuff... Next thing you know, Scott and I have picked out decks and the guy's building up our boards for us! How exciting!!!

So, here's some photos of them:
skateboards1.JPG

Mine, the black one, is a Stiffy's deck, and Scott's, the dark blue one, is a mini-logo (I think, I'm not sure if that's a brand?).

skateboards2.JPG

Mine has the white Stiffy's logo, and silver leaves on it, white Royal trucks, and I got clear tires that have a flower pattern on the inside, and (in the next photo) a blue jay on the outside. Oooooohh....

Scott's is plain dark blue, with matching Royal trucks, and red tires with black and white retro looking dude on it.

We went skating in the parking lot later that night... so much fun! And a harder workout than expected! By the end of the summer, maybe we'll even look like we know what we're doing!

You Grow Girl

I finally got my own plant journal at YouGrowGirl.com so even though you've already read the post, go see, I'm famous!

----------

May!

Gayla has been kind enough to let me in on the plant journal action, thanks!

So, to update, I went with some friends down to the VanDusen plant sale last weekend. Meet my new little friends, and some old ones!

A new strawberry plant

has moved in with the peas that survived the winter?

look, a new little pea!

A lot of the YGG forums crowd has been raving about chocolate mint, and I actually found some at the sale.

Got some other new herbs too?

dill,

and parsley

moved in with the chives, which are happily budding away?

And finally, I got some nasturtiums, which are not only gorgeous and colourful when they bloom, but tasty in salads!

The nasturtium moved in with the lavender, which is growing like crazy!

And don?t forget about Figgy! Figgy?s starting to bud, and gearing up for another summer, and another attempt to actually make some figs!

Well, that?s the garden report for now. I just rented a garden plot at the community gardens last week, so I?ll make sure to document that once I get it started.

Happy start of the gardening season!

laptop bag

Ok, I need a laptop bag desperately, and I want it to be quite small, and vertical (cause I'm small). I found two bags that I really like on the net. The first is from Tom Bihn, and is slightly larger, so it would actually fit other crap so I wouldn't have to carry a second bag with me. It is also more expensive because you have to buy the padded laptop sleeve separately, and altogether would cost about $85US (before shipping). I would either get it in this colour or plum (dark purple).

The other one is from eBags and is a bit smaller, so would only fit the computer and I would have to keep another bag with me for cords and other crap. However, it is a LOT cheaper at $15US, and comes in great funky fabrics. It is quite possible that this bag is a lot less durable than the other one though. The colours I like for this bag are the light blue flowers (although it is really close in colour to my jacket shell, which could look either ok or dorky), and black, yellow, or dark blue in the dragon print. I don't know which colour I would get though.

May

I can't believe it's already May. How the time flies. Apparently it is spring though, my chives are blossoming, and actually attracted a hummingbird to dart around the balcony this morning! And the tree outside our balcony--I have no idea what kind it is--has budded or blossomed (can't tell which), and looks just gorgeous.

treebuds.JPG

Of course with all this budding and blooming comes the onslaught of the allergies, but hey that's just the way it goes.

Want to see two things that I destroyed in the past week? First: I busted the needle on my sewing machine while also destroying this dress I was shortening (let's just say it ended up being more of a shirt).

bustedneedle.JPG

And, last night, I tried to make hardboiled eggs to have with a salad for dinner. I guess I didn't boil them long enough, cause they were REALLY uncooked in the middle--much less than a dipping egg, which I would've happily eaten. So, just put it in the microwave, right? Wrong. Microwave=Eggsplosion.

eggsplosion.JPG

On a more positive note, I finished the painting I was working on for Mike, Scott's brother--I have been meaning to paint a baseball painting for him since Christmas, cause he got Scott and I really awesome Christmas presents, and we just got him a backpack for going back to school after taking some time off. Anyway, I finished it, now if only we could catch him at home and drop it off!

Other than that, school is school, just focusing on getting through it. Oh, this is something new, I had my first counselling session last week with one of the therapists at school (way cheaper than a private therapist), and have another appointment in a few days. I've been feeling really stressed and shitty because of school, constantly being sick with my IBS, family stress, etc. so I figured it can't hurt to try it out. Seems like it will be interesting, though I can't really tell how helpful it'll be yet. Anyway, if I seem like I'm being a bitch, weirdo, or being distant lately, it's because of all of this, so please don't hold it against me! I still love you all! I just might not be able to be the greatest friend for the next little while, but I'll do my best as always!

Okay, that was enough confessions for today!
