Well, mere hours ago, Scott and I ended our approximately six year boycott of the US. We are in Seattle right now...we decided to compromise and end our boycott only for the "blue states." How funny it is to be here! It is just like I imagined it! I didn't really think it would be so... Seattle-y...
We were supposed to go stay at Scott's great Aunt's, but of course it turned out she had a cat, so we carried on into Seattle's downtown, and are in a sweet hotel near where the conference is. What a weird week, who would have imagined I'd be here for this (a computer related conference)? We just went grocery shopping at a 24-hour QFC grocery store, it was awesome...I got figs!
Anyway, tomorrow: Drupal Camp, day 1. Wish me luck.
you heard me!
we just went out to the garden for 15 mins. to water, stake the tomatoes, and plant the garlic.
when we left i had 3 mosquito bites. now i have 27. all on my legs. someone help me.
So I realized how long it had been since I did a proper post with photos and all, and how many photos I have waiting to be posted...it's a little overwhelming! I think I'm going to break it into a few separate posts, which may or may not all get done before tomorrow night when Scott and I head to Seattle for Drupal Camp! WTF? you ask...well...I'm going to a computery conference. Hey, what else have I got to do while I wait for my defense date to come up (Aug. 8, incase you were wondering!), plus maybe I'll actually learn how to make Drupal sites look really good!
Anyway, lets start with some really old photos of our crazy hailstorm in April:

And a few photos from Vernon--there is this tiny patch of trees left right in the middle of the industrial area of the city, that was left as a nesting area for these herons that live there. It is crazy, there are so many of them!

And some close-ups:

Next, in May, we spent an afternoon in Deep Cove:

Why Deep Cove? To visit with my uncle and his family because my parents came for a little visit...that's right, my mom AND my dad! He hadn't been out to visit for five years, but I've got the photos to prove it...A lovely one of dad and I with my eyes closed:

And one of me, my parents, uncle Paul, and one of those weird fibreglass bears:

A couple nice shots of the kayaks down at the beach:

Scrabble...

One of our SPUD bins, it's like Christmas everytime!

A couple weeks ago, Scott and I went to New Brunswick and PEI to visit Scott's brother Mike who is trying to start an organic farm near St. Andrews, NB, and Scott's uncle's family in Charlottetown. We stayed with them last time we were there, and they are a lot of fun. I didn't take a lot of photos there, so I will let you know when Scott posts his--they actually have people in them...
Here are a few photos from driving around the Bay of Fundy from Moncton to Alma--one of the many covered bridges in the area--I like the sign on the right:

Some boys dirt-biking along the Trans-Canada Trail which runs through the bridge:

A shot through one of the knots in the wall of the bridge:

Cows:

A heron near the road:

The view from where we stayed one night on the farm, this was literally what I opened my eyes to when I woke up:

It was a really nice trip...St. Andrews is a great town and it was great to see Mike and his roomies again. PEI was fun as always, and actually Moncton was a really nice place to spend a couple days too!
Separate posts coming re: yummy food I've made, the garden, and City Girl Designs!
anyone know any hayfever remedies? (parv?) the pollen index is showing grass at 60 (high end of moderate), so i know that's what it is, and like i wasn't suffering enough, they had to go and mow the damn grass this morning!
i have itchy, burning eyes, itchy burning nose, itchy sore throat, runny nose, a post-nasal waterfall, and am sneezing my head off. i may as well be eating marshmallows instead of claritin, they are not doing a thing.
anyone have any advice (other than keeping the windows closed)? i have to get fillings done today and tomorrow (yes, two...i haven't been flossing, and i got cavities), and i can't breathe through my nose!
help!!!
While trying to figure out google rankings, I was searching for "city girl designs" and happened to find some little mentions of my business on the net! Not including places I already knew I was mentioned, I discovered:
A neat looking blog with lots of stuff about eco-friendly consumerism, The Wosted Witch...
My first copycat, one of the Sampler members was inspired by my hairclips to make little felt flower patches for her bag 7indigo...
And finally, a site I don't totally understand has a nod to the Metroblogging post I was mentionned in Overheard in Vancouver
Neato!
i just went zine crazy and bought 12 zines (and one patch, for good measure) from MYMY cause they're having a free shipping sale, and i loves me some zines and free shipping!
"WOOOOO!" as the asshole outside at 6:30am would say. "WOOOOO!"
