I'm going to take a note from Leslie here, and try and do a bit of an end of summer wrap-up to catch up on my total lack of blogging this summer. But first, a little news: I just survived my first week of work! I started working part time at the Boys and Girls Club this week, so far so good! Tomorrow and Sunday, Scott and I are taking a First Aid and CPR course, so it is busy times around here. When I get a chance, I've also got to do up a post updating the progress of the gardening season!
Anyway, where to start...
I don't think I ever posted any photos from Seattle, so here are a couple shots from Drupal Camp back in June, walking back from lunch:

and the amazing zine library in the basement of Hugo House, where Drupal Camp was held...if you love zines, you MUST go there next time you're in Seattle... and don't miss the poetry gumball machine in the main entrance to HH.

I think it was the following weekend when we went for the traditional Canada Day/Birthday weekend at Tall Scott's cabin. Here's Parv napping in the hammock:

Here are a couple of random shots, that I can't remember exactly where they fit in... First a shot of the painting I did for Parv:

And a random shot of the Lion's Gate bridge:

My lovely family got together for a BBQ the day I handed in my thesis, when some of my relatives were in town at the RV park. My Islander cousins, who I see way too rarely, have grown up to be really cool kids!

And here's my newest cousin and favorite little girl in the world!

Finally a couple of shots from our camping trip to Lac Le Jeune during the good old heat wave:

A long weekend picnic last weekend down at the park:

And to finish off, here's Scott being an insomniac before his first day at (grad) school!

I think that wraps it up for now... Watch for a garden-related post in the near future!
okay, this is mainly for the gals, but if the boys are reading, well... it should be educational!
after repeatedly seeing ads in BUST magazine for lunapads, and browsing around their website, i finally broke down and ordered a couple to try. i was skeptical about how well they'd work and thought they might be an added annoyance at an already annoying time of the month. but like everyone else who has tried them, i was instantly hooked. not to mention that they are an awesome women-run local company who do wicked promotions like giving me free stuff for gushing about their products! (i think i must have reached prefered customer status or something...)
1) i was always totally disappointed with the increase of garbage i would create in that one week a month. so much waste! lunapads=no garbage. just a little more laundry.
2) no more throwing money away to a company that i didn't support morally. i tried some environmentally friendly non-chlorine bleached disposables, and well, they just didn't cut it. so i was doomed to decades of supporting a company that contributes to creating crazy amounts of unnecessary waste, that uses icky dyes and bleach, creating dioxins and who knows what else. every month, i spent the money and felt guilty. no more! lunapads are expected to last at least five years with proper care, so no more wasting my money on something i use for only a few hours and then toss away. no more bleach. they even have organic cotton pads and lunapanties!
3) comfort. disposables are chafe-y, and do not breathe! lunapads are made of soft flannel and cotton fleece, and are comfy year round.
4) and this is the scary one. last time i saw my doctor, we got into an interesting discussion where she explained to me that she has noticed a link between certain women's health problems, and users of a certain very popular brand of disposable pads... just happened to be the ones i was using. she told me that if i never used another, it couldn't be too soon. geez! of course i don't know of any definitive research on the links between having chemical laden plastic and fibre against your lady parts for a quarter or so of your adult life, but there has been plenty of speculation on increased cancer, infections etc. blech, no thanks!
so yes, those are the reasons why i love lunapads. now, back to your regularly scheduled blogging.
