holy storminess
what is with this crazy rain and wind?!!! the rain on the roof was so loud it woke me up at 6am this morning! i will be surprised if we don't either get another power out or a tree down somewhere on the hill before the end of the day. it is soooo dark out too! i'm from the prairies, i need some sun dammit!

Oh yeah, fall garden update!

Sorry for being MIA the last little while! I got caught up with finishing my Masters over the summer months (what a way to spend the summer!), and am finally kind of getting things back in order now that it?s finished? One of the things on my to-do list has been a long overdue garden update, so here it goes:
Firstly, I know some of you are have probably just been dying to know how Figgy did this year after the big chop (ie. cutting off the top foot of the stick that is my fig tree), so here Figgy is at what I would estimate his prime time of the season (all the leaves have now fallen, of course). I think the pruning really helped get things bushing out a bit more, so no figs again, but I think some progress was made. Note Figgy?s pruned top half (sitting on the ground by the pot) has been growing happily in water since the big chop.
The garden plot did quite well this year, although being on the edge of a forest, we had some significant loss to the wildlife who particularly liked the sicilian saucer tomatoes and the sunflowers (of the two that survived to blooming, this one was half eaten, and the other had the flower eaten right off!)
We grew five different varieties of tomatoes (Sicilian Saucer, Kootenai, Window Box Roma, Sunsugar, and Green Zebra), mixed bush beans, garlic, cucumbers, peas, basil, corn, jalapenos, sunflowers, and shallots. I know there are more photos that have probably ended up on Scott?s computer so I will try and track them down so I can do a full tomato review and post some more end of season shots. For now, here are some of what we harvested:

All in all, a good season! But I still miss having a garden right in my backyard?maybe next year!
