wow, has the last week ever been action packed!
to backtrack, monday was spent walking around downtown victoria in the pissing rain shopping and buying amazing things that really deserve a whole post of their own. got books at munroes and tea at murchie's. finally tried out Rebar for lunch--delicious, as expected. discovered two great new shops: Plenty a foodie shop with amazing things that i've never even seen before...the owner made us jasmine blooming tea...you MUST go there!, and Not Just Pretty, a clothing boutique that sells stuff made with sustainable fabrics.
then went and hung out with the relatives for dinner and the rest of the evening. after a very rocky ferry back, me and the mom settled in downtown for the rest of her stay. we managed to fit in a dinner with the vancouver relatives, some househunting, and a tour of the stanley park damage before she headed home yesterday.

by the way, did i mention i got a *REAL* job? at a small webdesign company downtown, starts in a couple weeks, i'm excited! and, i finally found an apartment in the west end. life is going to be really different in another month!

oh, and right now, i'm at Northern Voice, a blogging conference...so far so good, more to report later, i'm sure!
that's it for now.
It took all day, but I'm finally in Victoria! My mom got in last night from Sask, and I went down and stayed at the hotel with her (which turned out not to be the best idea cause I couldn't get to sleep there!), but we got up bright and early (as far as I'm concerned) and hopped on the Gulf Islands Ferry. Three hours later, we arrived at Saltspring Island, where we spent a couple hours chatting over tea with my mom's aunt Nancy, who is this tiny 95 year old lady who still lives on her own and has a sense of humour...what more can you ask for? Then we got on the final leg of the trip here, and took the half hour ferry to Victoria. It was a really small ferry, and we sat in the car on the deck because that's what everyone else did, even though it was pretty chilly!
Finally, we made it to the hotel around 8pm, and ran to the hotel next door for dinner, cause we were starving! (I was really looking forward to room service, but there's no restaurant here.) Dinner was pretty unimpressive, but it was food and that's good enough when you're tired and hungry!
I thought that all the Best Western's had wireless internet, but apparently this one doesn't. Fortunately, they have modems you can take up to your room. Unfortunately, they are broken... but now that I think about it, I should talk to the girl at the desk again, cause I don't think I should need a modem, just a cable... So, anyway, I'm down in the lobby in my sweats typing this and checking email before I head back up.
Tomorrow is visiting with my cousins, and aunt and uncle, and exploring Victoria (and hopefully a little shopping!) with mom.
i just had to post this in case there are people out there who really like crazy socks... i was reading BUST magazine, and there was an ad for an online sock store, and oh my gosh, it's the holy grail of crazy sock stores! Sock Dreams, watch out if/when i have some cash to burn on crazy socks!
