spring gardening

well, end of week three and my stomach finally got the best of me--i went home just after lunch yesterday with what's either a really bad IBS flare-up or some kind of mild stomach virus, and have been outta commission for the last day or so. i'm totally bored because my brain just wants to get out there and get things done, but my body is a no-go, so i thought, what better time than to toss up some photos.

no, not the new apartment--i know i've been promising those, but i still haven't got the rest of my furniture, so you'll have to stay in suspense another week or two. but as a teaser, here are some photos of the beginnings of my balcony garden! for a change, this year i decided to dedicate some space to non-edibles, and planted a little spring flower garden, which i'm finding extremely cheery!

Left to right (some of these didn't have tags, so I'm sort of guessing): Purple hens and chicks, pink heather, miniature irises, some kind of variegated tulip(?), grape hyacinth, more pink heather, and a gorgeous red cyclamen.

and of course, lots of herbs--the lavender and chives survived the unusually cold winter, but the parsley and nasturtiums didn't make it. joining the group are a rosemary plant, and a bunch of flatleaf parsley and sweet basil (fingers crossed that maybe 4th time's a charm for the basil, which i have yet to successfully grow for a season)

since yougrowgirl.com isn't having guest garden blog writers anymore, you can expect a lot more garden-related entries to pop up here this year!
